Research Dossier

Cinemagic is an international film festival for young people based in Belfast, Northern Ireland. It was established in 1989 and over the years it has developed a worldwide reputation for excellence in children’s programming and is currently the largest award-winning children’s film festival in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The festival includes international film screenings, movie premieres, industry Q&A’s, discussions, competitions and master classes in all aspects of film making.

Personally I believe that these two scripts develop the characters in the scene really well and give you an idea of what the scene intends. The use dialogue really helps set the scene and creates a clear image of what the people look like and that the scene is very serious, but also comedic in the way of how he is mocking the other person in such a serious situation as a fight. The use of scene direction as well shows how the two Cray twins are mocking the other people as they aren't taking it very seriously, which is shown when he walks out and how he pours his pint.

The reason I like this short is because of the script and how creatively it is put together. The fact that the people in the diner control the relationship is really cool. I really like how them using the scene directions out loud in turn means that Vicky an Sam both do the thing. I really like the creativity and the thought behind it, and most definitely think that it fits into the rom-com genre. However feel that at the end they could be scene together, having made up, but them leaving it how they did, it sets it apart slightly from most rom-coms out there.

The reason I like this short film is because of how well it fits into the action genre. How they managed to fit all the action that they did into the small amount of time was outstanding and for me personally, I believe to make a better action short film, would be quite hard to do. It follows all the roles that an action takes up, with a chase, a dangerous situation, a near death situation, and a situation where they have to solve a "puzzle" in a short amount of time.

I found an article from the Telegraph with numerous amounts of scary clown sightings. The link at the bottom of the page will take you to these articles.

This link takes you to an IMDB page where there is a list of scary clown films, ranking from number one on wards. The scary clown films on this list are all set in different places. Some are set in theme parks, some are set in small towns and houses, and one is set in a prison. Obviously all the films are based around scary clowns so the main character for all of them is a scary clown. This link is also for the research into existing media texts, however the scary clown films didn't mix in with comedy and were all of the horror genre. The most recent scary clown film to release was IT, remade. This again wasn't a comedy. For a scary clown comedy it would end up being something like a spoof. Mine features hints of comedy, but does fit into the thriller/horror genre and might be more beneficial to go more into horror and leave the comedy behind.  The reason that clowns are now seen as scary dates back to the 16th century with Shakespeare. Shakespeare says that “Clowns have always been associated with danger and fear, because they push logic up to its breaking point,”. A reason for why clowns are considered scary is because of the mask. You don't truly know what could be behind the mask. In most cases the clowns could be drunks who are violent but just prance around being happy because they're drunk. The disguise starts to become unnerving. The term for a phobia of clowns is "coulrophobia". Although it is not officially a listed a phobia, experts believe the reason for the phobia being because you don't know who's behind the mask.
